Changes in IATF 16949:2016

ISO standards are reviewed every five years to determine what changes, if any, are required to keep the standards up-to-date and relevant. IATF 16949 fully supports these changes by using ISO 9001:2015 as a foundation, and by including additional requirements that reflect the needs of the automotive industry today.

Alignment with the ISO 9001:2015 structure makes it easier for organizations facing the need to implement more than one quality management system standard, as ISO 9001 integrates with other ISO family standards. If IATF 16949 is implemented and properly managed, an organization will:

1. Satisfy OEMs and Tier 1 supplier requirements and expectations
2. Produce safer and more reliable products
3. Meet or exceed customer requirements
4. Improve processes and documentation system

. Product safety
. Manufacturing feasibility
. Development of parts with embedded software
. Risk Management approach
. Auditor competencies
. Warranty management
